Dragon Island – Prisoner’s Plateau

Dian has many places mapped out for us, but as a matter of course, she maps places she knows best first. By her estimates, they spent a year settling into the plateau. Her rough sketches weren’t the best, so she found a young artist, Zayn, to turn her measurements and estimates into suitable maps. She added the details.

The dragons prepared the plateau to hold their prisoners by removing all plant life they could hide behind. It also meant the dragons had to provide their supplies.

The Lake

The lake is the water source for the plateau, and vegetation around the lake grows faster than the rest. Dian suspects the lake contains magic, though she cannot prove her suspicions. An unnatural drop several paces into the lake leaves its depths unexplored. Two waterfalls flow in and out. One waterfall, flowing into the lake, covers the entrance to Cian’s Cave. The second waterfall flows out under the bridge built to have one path around the lake.

Main Camp

Dian dug the first fire pit close enough to fetch water daily, but far enough not to feel the cooler temperatures. The people followed Dian’s lead, building their shelters, cooking fires, and smaller building projects by the first fire pit. Dian holds all celebrations in the clearing before this fire pit, called the main camp.

Dian’s Office

Corwin and Zhiwei’s first attempt at building a teepee, and Dian asked them to set up her teepee away from Main Camp. She wanted fewer distractions, and she could hold meetings without worrying about others listening in.

Clay Workers

The area Aurnir claimed for extensive building projects. His clay workers mixed mud to make bricks, jars, and other instruments for the camp. Aurnir and his team had their hands in all building projects, especially the building.

The Building

One way the builders provided shelter for the people. While they worked closely with Corwin and Zhiwei, the leather workers, to build the teepees, this building they made of timber and clay bricks.

Archers

The space used for training. Initially, Dian required everyone to train as they adjusted to reality. After a time, only Luka’s archers remained, training their skills to fight dragons.

Medical Tent

The tent where Daktari and Durva treat the injured. Durva requested the tent to be built near her garden to remain nearby for any emergencies and away from the business of camp to keep patients calm.

Weaver’s Way

The path contains the processes to turn hanf into cloth and clothing, overseen by Genoveva. It contains the retting pools, washing lines, scutching area, spinning and weaving tent, and the dyer’s tent.

Retting – soaking the plants to soften the plants and separate the fibers

Scutching – removing impurities from fibers to prepare them for spinning

Cian’s Cave

A cave hidden by a waterfall and found by Drew and Saxton. The cave is a mystery, with perfectly smooth walls. Too small to use as shelter, the cave provides a cool place to store surplus food.

The Gardens

Main Gardens

Supervised by Shannon and Li, these gardeners take any part of the supplies provided to become independent from the dragons.

Durva’s Garden

Under Durva’s care, the garden provides enough plants for all medicines, poultices, and herbal teas Daktari and Durva prescribe.

Dyer’s Garden

A garden of flowers intended for dyeing pots. People can purchase flowers for gifts and leis through bartering.

Hanf Forest

While called a forest, it’s actually a misnomer. The hanf, grown in dense plots, towered over its gardeners much like trees in a forest. Once the hanf matured, the gardeners cut them, sent them along to Weaver’s Way, and planted a new plot.

Food Forest

A forest grown from the seeds of fruits and nuts found in the supplies sent by the dragons and requires less maintenance than the gardens.

The Maze

A bare patch of land between the camp and the sentry rock. An invisible maze randomly covers the area making it unusable for building anything. A well trod area as the scouts have to path through the maze to check for supplies at Zásoby Point.

Zásoby Point

The rocky clearing the dragons first dropped everyone at. The only place to find the dragons Dian calls Bubbles and Candy. Zivon named the clearing, calling it zásoby while pointing toward the sentry rock. As he and Tessa scouted the area most often, the name stuck.
